Description
Epitalon (also known as Epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide made from four amino acids: alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and glycine (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). It was developed to mimic epithalamin, a natural extract from the pineal gland.
Key Characteristics & Proposed Effects
-
- Telomerase Activation: Studied for its potential to activate telomerase—the enzyme that helps maintain telomeres (the protective caps on chromosomes).
- Melatonin and Circadian Rhythms: Modeled after a pineal gland regulator, it has been researched for supporting melatonin synthesis and sleep quality.
- Aging and Longevity: Frequently discussed in longevity and geroprotective research for cellular repair and age-related decline.
- Not FDA-Approved: Epitalon is not approved by the FDA or EMA for medical use in humans.
